1 / 12A railway platform coping is the cut-to-size edge slab of a platform. Its top face is machine planed into parallel anti-slip grooves (also called a brushed finish), the exposed edge is rounded, and all six faces are sealed. The usual size is 1000×600×50mm; 999×598×50mm is used where the joint has to line up with the paving behind. The block is Maple Red G562, sawn to 50mm, then polished, grooved and edge-profiled. What separates it from ordinary coping is the grooves: each one has to align with the slab before it, and one misplaced groove shows along the whole platform.
